VISION
The Hangar in Midtown is a collective endeavor led by passionate creatives, entrepreneurs, and community leaders dedicated to reshaping Mississippi’s role in the film and creative industries. Our team brings together diverse experiences and shared commitment to building a sustainable, inclusive creative hub.
[WHO] The Visionaries Behind The Hangar
In response to the shifting landscape of the film industry, where production is increasingly moving away from traditional centers like Los Angeles, The Hangar aims to establish Mississippi as a new nucleus for creative production. By providing state-of-the-art facilities and resources, we’re laying the groundwork for a thriving local industry that supports filmmakers, artists, and storytellers.
[WHAT] Building Mississippi’s Creative Infrastructure
“Why wasn’t “Sinners” filmed in Mississippi?”
In this clip, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, known for Black Panther and Fruitvale Station, spells it out: the state’s tax‑credit pool was empty and we lacked adequate industry standard soundstages and a crew base in Mississippi. They loved the Delta’s look but had to take the production, jobs, and spend to Louisiana instead.
The Hangar exists to change that equation. We’re converting our historic warehouse into a full‑scale production campus; podcast suites, flex stages, and a flagship soundstage and support spaces, so the next Mississippi story can be made at home, with local crews and local ownership.
